Currituck County, NC – It took Currituck County & Dare County Fire crews all morning to battle a blaze on the beachfront in Corolla Saturday morning.

When crews arrived they found two units completely engulfed in flames around 4:50 a.m. according to Randall Edwards, a Currituck County spokesperson.

He told us the residential structure fire was contained to units 857 and 859 off Lighthouse Drive but a third home suffered minor exterior damage.

There were three residents in unit 857 with one suffering minor injuries.

Currituck County authorities originally reported no one was staying in unit 859. They now say a group of 11 vacationers had just checked into unit 859 but all had left the house before it caught fire. However, all of their possessions and one vehicle was destroyed during the fire.

Dare County sent several crews to help with the fire: Duck, Kitty Hawk, Nags Head, and Southern Shores Fire Departments.

The fire remains under investigation by the Currituck County Sheriff’s Department and Fire Marshal’s Office.
