Accomack County, Va. – A 27-year-old woman died after a crash shut down a road in Accomack County for hours on Sunday afternoon.

State Police say this happened at 1:52 p.m. on northbound Fleming Road, which is south of Sign Post Road.

They say a 2002 Honda Accord driven by a woman identified as Sharon Paul was going southbound on Fleming Road when it drove off of the road, overcorrected and crossed into the northbound lane. When it crossed into the northbound lane, it was hit in the rear passenger door by a 2015 Dodge Ram which caused the 27-year-old to be ejected.

The Paul and her passenger, Thanmayee Kerkala were airlifted to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Maryland.

Yerkala died at the scene.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, J.R. Burton and his front seat passenger did not suffer any injuries.
