Virginia Beach, Va. – A 17-year-old boy was flown to Sentara Norfolk General after he collapsed about a mile away from the finish line at the 2015 Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon at the Oceanfront Sunday morning.

Virginia Beach EMS Spokesperson Ed Brazle says the 17-year-old was given immediate CPR service on scene at the Sentara Mobile Field Hospital after he collapsed near 5th street. When his condition didn’t improve, he was flown to Sentara Norfolk General in serious condition for further evaluation and treatment.

As customary to any marathon event, numerous medic tents were set up along the path of the race.

Brazle told us today they treated 26 people at the mobile tents, and transported 6 to the hospital. Although alarming, he says these numbers are fairly normal during any major athletic event.

There is no word on his current condition.
