Apartment floor buckles, two units evacuated

Posted

Norfolk, Va. – A party in an ODU off-campus apartment complex with an excessive number of people made the floor buckle late Friday night.

The residents below the unit quickly notified authorities about the incident. When ODU Police and the Norfolk Fire Department arrived on scene, they quickly broke up the gathering and evacuated residents from the affected and surrounding units.

The City of Norfolk’s inspection team conducted a full inspection, evacuated the two affected apartments and relocated the residents to new units. The City’s inspection team permitted all other residents to remain in their assigned apartments.

The District is currently working to repair the damages.

Mark Evans, a spokesperson for The District ODU, reminded residents that leases only permit a total of 10 people in the apartment at any time.

The District ODU is privately owned and contracted.
