Parts of Warwick Boulevard now open after Newport News Shipbuilding train hits car

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – An accident between a train and a car closed Warwick Boulevard from 39th Street to 42nd Street Tuesday morning.

It happened at around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

When officers arrived, they found a white car driven by an 87-year-old woman had been struck by a Newport News Shipbuilding train engine.

The woman had no visible injuries, but was taken to the hospital to be examined.

The conductor of the train was not injured.

Investigators said that the car was traveling northbound on Warwick Boulevard and disregarded the train crossing arms and signals. The train was unable to stop in enough time, causing the crash.

Warwick Boulevard was reopened at 10:15 a.m.
