Norfolk, Va. – The commanding officer of the Norfolk-based USS Anzio was relieved of his duties on Thursday by Commander, Carrier Strike Group 8, Rear Adm. Bret Batchelder.

Capt. Brian K. Sorenson was relieved of his duties by Batchelder due to loss of confidence in his ability to command following preliminary findings of an on-going investigation into allegations of personal misconduct, according to a release from the Navy.

Capt. Frank Castellano, commanding officer of USS Vella Gulf (CG 72), assumed command.

Sorenson assumed command of USS Anzio in November 2014 and has been reassigned to Commander, Naval Surface Force, Atlantic.
