Army selects 2015 Drill Sergeants and AIT Platoon Sergeant of the year

Newport News, Va. (WTKR) – The Army has announced the winners of the 2015 Drill Sergeant and Advanced Individual Training Platoon Sergeant of the Year competition.

The winners were announced during a ceremony at Fort Jackson, South Carolina on Friday, September 11, 2015.

Staff Sgt. Jacob Miller, representing Fort Leonard Wood, was selected as the 2015 U.S. Army Drill Sergeant of the Year for the active component.

Staff Sgt. Mark Mercer, representing the 95th Reserve Division, was selected as the 2015 Army Reserve Drill Sergeant of the Year.

Sgt. 1st Class Samuel Enriquez, representing Fort Sam Houston, Texas, was chosen as the 2015 Advanced Individual Training (AIT) Platoon Sergeant of the Year.

Miller and Mercer were among the top six of the Army’s top drill sergeants and Enriquez came from the Army’s top eight AIT platoon sergeants.

Enriquez, Mercer and Miller will all relocate to Fort Eustis in Newport News where they will serve one-year special assignments at the Army’s Center for Initial Military Training as advisors and subject matter experts for enlisted individual entry training.

All three were also awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.
