Driver charged after fleeing from police, hitting two other vehicles in Newport News

Newport News, Va. – A man is facing several charges after police say he led them on a pursuit and hit two cars on Tuesday morning.

The incident happened at 10:57 a.m. when police were pursuing a 2002 Chevrolet Impala that was driving recklessly on Jefferson Avenue.

They say 27-year-old  Alonzo Rashad Wade was behind the wheel.

They say he lost control of the vehicle, hit a Hyundai Elantra while at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Freedom Way and then hit another vehicle, a Honda Odyssey van.

After the vehicle finally stopped, Wade ran away but was later caught, according to police.

Wad was charged with violation of probation, reckless driving, improper driving, driving on suspended/revoked license, failing to report damage, and disregard or elude, endanger.
