Hampton, Va. - Hampton Police say they have a person in custody for allegedly assaulting two officers on Thursday afternoon.

Officers were conducting a traffic stop in the 2000 block of North Armistead Avenue around 1:00 p.m.

When they stopped the suspect's car, the officers believed he gave them false information.

When the police tried to take the suspect out of his car, he drove off and dragged the officers a short distance.

The suspect ran away from the scene, but was found at the 2600 block of North Armistead Avenue and taken into custody about 15 minutes later.

As a result of the search, Burbank Elementary and Machen Elementary were on a lockdown for approximately 15 minutes around 1:45 p.m. The lockdown delayed dismissal time by a few minutes.

Both officers were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
