Investigators say the suspect, 19-year-old Donte M. Chesson of Virginia Beach,  stabbed a man in the 800 block of West 48th Street. Neighbors tell NewsChannel 3 that the victim was a 22-year-old student who was stabbed several times in the torso. They say a few other people were hit during the incident but they only have bruises and black eyes.

Witnesses also say that mostly rugby players live at the home, but it’s not an official team house.

The stabbing happened at around 1:45 a.m.

Old Dominion Police Officers were given a description of a suspect and found Chesson less than a block from where the stabbing happened.

Investigators tell NewsChannel 3 that residents told Chesson to leave their house, but he came back and entered the property.

After Chesson came into the house, he approached two men and assaulted them, stabbing one man several times.

Chesson ran away, but was caught by police while attempting to leave the scene.

He has been charged with one count of breaking and entering to commit a felony, one count of brandishing a firearm, two counts of malicious wounding, and three counts of conspiracy to commit a felony.

Chesson is currently being held without bond at the Norfolk City Jail.

The student who was stabbed is expected to be released  from the hospital.
