Virginia Beach, Va. - Virginia Beach Police are investigating after a gunshot victim was reported Tuesday morning.

Police were called to the scene in the 3900 block of Marina Lake Road around 9:45 a.m.  That's in the Windsor Lake Apartments off South Plaza Trail and Windsor Oaks Boulevard.

The victim is a man but his condition is unknown at this time.

Officers have been at the scene for most of the day looking for evidence and talking to residents of the apartment complex.

All of a sudden I look out my window and I see the crime tape. I look at my car to get out and it’s all covered, " said Catherine Downing, a resident of the complex.   "Then, the man knocked on the door and he said 'You can’t leave right now, it’s not safe right now.  Someone ran through there and has been shot.'"

Officers took most of the crime scene tape down around 11:00 a.m., but detectives continued to investigate for several hours after that, mainly at the end of the complex along Water Oak Road.

Police have not released many details about what happened, how the victim is doing, or any information about a suspect.
