Wakefield, Va. – The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood advisory until 11:00 p.m. Monday for Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Chesapeake, Isle of Wight and Surry.

A coastal flood advisory means that onshore winds, wave action, and/or tides will combine to create flooding in low areas along the shore and near tidal rivers and creeks.

Residents should be prepared for the possibility of road closure and minor flooding of properties and take action to protect themselves and their property.

The combination of high water and waves will result in beach erosion and damage to docks and piers in locations exposed to high water and waves.

If travel is necessary, don’t try to drive through water of unknown depths.
