Gloucester, Va. – A Gloucester man bought a Powerball ticket that ended up winning $1 million in Saturday’s drawing.

The winning ticket was sold to James Moren III at the Food Lion at 7465 Hargett Blvd. in Gloucester.

The winning numbers for the September 26th Powerball drawing were 23-31-42-50-57, and the Powerball number was 5. This ticket matched the first five numbers and missed only the Powerball number.

“I couldn’t believe it at first,” Moren said. “My only concern was keeping that little piece of paper safe.”

What is he going to do with the money?

He said he’s going to set up a college fund for his son.

The store that sold the winning ticket will receive a $10,000 bonus from the Virginia Lottery. This ticket was the only one in Virginia to match the first five numbers in Saturday’s drawing, and one of just eight nationwide. No ticket matched all six numbers to win the jackpot.

Powerball drawings are held at 10:59 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays.
