Man believed to be part of regional shoplifting ring dies from gunshots

mall3Newport News, Va. – Police need your help solving the homicide of a man who was believed to be part of a regional shoplifting ring.

On May 10th at around midnight, officers responded to a call about gunshots in the Denbigh part of Newport News.

Officers found an unresponsive man, identified as Antonio Leon Kelly of Hampton, who had a gunshot wound to the face and chest.

Medics pronounced the 22-year-old dead at 12:25 a.m.

His body was found near Motoka Drive and Chipley Drive, but investigators are not sure why Kelly was in the area.

Back in April 2014, NewsChannel 3 reported about three men believed to be part of a regional shoplifting ring: Kendrick Markiest Alexander, 25, Marquan Tawelle Hoskins, 22, and Antonio Leon Kelly, 21.

Police say they stole large amounts of clothing from area stores, amounting to thousands of dollars.
