Suffolk Parks and Recreation celebrates afterschool programs

Suffolk, Va.-  Suffolk Parks and Recreation will celebrate its 16th annual event praising afterschool programs on Thursday October 22, 2015 at various Suffolk recreation centers.

“Lights on Afterschool” is the only nationwide event that celebrates afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families and communities.

Join Suffolk Parks and Recreation as they honor the National Lights on Afterschool initiative from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.  All events are free and open to the public.

The various Suffolk Parks & Recreation sites will showcase many different presentations and demonstrations on everything from science fair ideas, to basketball and soccer demonstrations, engaging in dance karate and more.

The  Joint-Use Recreation Centers located at the various Suffolk  Public School sites are:

Mack Benn Jr. Recreation Center, 1253 Nansemond Parkway

Booker T. Washington Recreation Center, 204 Walnut Street

Creekside Recreation Center, 1000 Bennetts Creek Road

Northern Shores Recreation Center, 6701 Respass Beach Road

King’s Fork Recreation Center, 350 Co Rd 634

The program will focus on youth ages 11 to 15 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Community events will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for youth and families.
