UPDATE: Police identified the suspect as Devonte Johnson, 22, of Chesapeake.
Johnson is charged with reckless driving, fleeing police, child endangerment, resisting arrest and driving on a suspended license.
He is in the Virginia Beach jail without bond.
Virginia Beach, Va. - State Police are investigating a police chase that ended with a driver hitting a town house and throwing a child over a fence in Virginia Beach.
According to state police, around 2:18 p.m. a trooper attempted to pull over a speeding vehicle on I-64 EB west of Indian River Road and the suspect sped off as the officer approached the car.
The suspect turned onto Peppermill Lane in Virginia Beach at a high speed and lost control of the 2013 Dodge Charger, striking the corner of a townhouse.
The chase didn't end there.
When the suspect was told to put his hands in the air, police say he grabbed a child from the car and fled on foot.
The suspect then threw the child over a wooden fence and attempted to jump himself but was caught by the trooper.
The three-year-old child suffered minor injuries and was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital as a precaution.
The suspect is currently in custody.
The town house was occupied at the time of the crash but no one was injured.
