Newport News, Va. – An inmate working at Newport News Park escaped for about an hour on Thursday.
Meko Brown walked away from his work detail while under the supervision of Newport News City Public Works correctional employees around 1:00 p.m.
Newport News Sheriff’s Office deputies, police, K-9s and investigators searched for the 18-year-old and arrested him near the park around 2:00 p.m.
Brown was in jail for charges of grand larceny vehicle theft, grand larceny firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.
He will face more charges for escaping.
