Norfolk, Va. - After two shootings near Old Dominion University sent four students to the hospital and left one sailor dead, both ODU and Norfolk Police are taking action and stepping up their patrol presence.

Both incidents happened during ODU's homecoming weekend.

Emergency dispatchers received calls around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 18 of a shooting incident near Hampton Boulevard and 40th Street.

When officers arrived, they found two men, ages 19 and 22, suffering from non-life threatening gunshot wounds.

Medics transported the victims to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where police say they are expected to recover.

It all started when an argument broke out between several people at a party, according to witnesses. During that argument, a man began shooting.

Just more than 24 hours later and a few blocks away, Seaman Keith Lendore and two other ODU students were shot outside of a party in the area of 37th Street and Killam Avenue.

Shortly before 11:45 p.m., police received reports of several gunshots heard in the area.

When officers arrived, they found 26-year-old Lendore lying on the ground, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two women found at the scene with gunshot wounds were transported by paramedics to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

It was a scary weekend for ODU students and a busy weekend for both Norfolk and ODU Police. Norfolk Police are now leading the investigation.  A spokesperson says they are starting to get closer to the bottom of what happened at the two shootings.

Police are asking any witnesses who attended the parties to take action against crime and call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
