Norfolk, Va. – Three men have been sentenced to spend years in prison after committing the armed robbery of nearly $100,000 in cell phones from different businesses in Hampton Roads.
Authorities say 21-year-old Edgar Brito, 20-year-old Daren Artis and 23-year-old Alexander Horst committed armed robberies of stores that stole cell phones, including a Radio Shack on Colley Avenue, a T-Mobile on Tidewater Drive, and a T-Mobile on Phoenix Drive in Virginia Beach.
According to police, the men entered the stores wearing masks and demanded employees at gunpoint to give them cash from the registers and cell phones.
When the three men ran away from the Virginia Beach robbery, they dropped a duffle bag that had stolen cell phones and a Greyhound bus ticket with Brito’s name on it.
Detectives from the Virginia Beach Police Department arrested Brito and he confessed to the armed robbery.
Police found almost 40 cell phones, a gun and money from the three men.
Brito and Artis were sentenced to 128 months in prison. Alexander Horst was sentenced to 110 months in prison.
