Norfolk, Va. – Hampton Roads fire and rescue departments have teamed up with other departments across the nation to participate in a Structural Collapse Team Training  in Virginia Beach.

Virginia has the model program for this kind of training and first responders came from as far as the state of Washington to participate.

The Structure Collapse Technicians are only one element of the Task force. The FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Task Force is a team specializing in urban search and rescue, disaster recovery, and emergency medicine.

Structural Collapse Technicians must be trained in various areas including fire and rescue, crane operation, rigging, chain saws, cutting torches and masonry saws. These teams are trained to handle any situation imaginable.
