Newport News bank robbery suspect found

Newport News, Va. – The second suspect in the robbery of a SunTrust Bank in Newport News on Friday has been captured.

Eric Tyrone Purvis Jr. was arrested on October 30 in Portsmouth.

Patrol officers and detectives acting on information provided by citizens in the area were able to identify both suspects shortly after the crime was committed.

The first suspect, identified as 22-year-old Chrisopher Xavier Burley, was taken into custody shortly after the robbery.

Burley was charged with robbery, entering a bank while armed, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, wearing a mask in certain places and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Purvis was at large for a week and was considered armed and dangerous.

The pair entered the bank at 10814 Warwick Boulevard shortly after noon armed with handguns and were seen running from the area after the robbery.
