Two Newport News apartment units damaged in fire

Newport News, Va. – Two apartment units in Newport News were damaged after a fire broke out inside of the building on Thursday evening.

Crews arrived on the scene of the fire in the 4100 block of Newsome Drive at 4:27 p.m.

When they first got there, they found heavy smoke coming from the building.

They started to attack the fire from the interior and they started to search for people inside.

They had the fire under control at 4:38 p.m.

The apartment where the fire was located had fire, heat and smoke damage. An adjacent apartment had smoke damage.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

No one was injured officials say.
