Man medevaced from cruise ship off coast of Cape Hatteras

Wilmington, NC – The United States Coast Guard medevaced a 48-year-old man from a cruise ship approximately 18 miles off the coast of Cape Hatteras on Monday morning.

Coast Guard Sector North Carolina watchstanders received a report from the Grandeur of the Sea cruise ship around 7:40 a.m. Monday morning reporting that the man was suffering health complications.

A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was launched from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City at 9:00 a.m. and met the cruise ship at 10:15 a.m.

The man and a ship’s nurse were hoisted from the ship and flown to CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern and arrived at 12:20 p.m.

He was last reported to be stable.
