Virginia Beach, Va. (WTKR) - The Navy is working to decrease the number of shoplifting cases that occur at Navy Exchange (NEX) locations.

According to the Navy Exchange Service Command, in 2014 NEX Loss Prevention/Safety associates investigated and resolved 1,192 shoplifting cases.

Of those cases, 17% involved active duty service members.

The departments seeing the most investigations into shoplifting were computer hardware and peripherals, alcohol, video games and electronics.

In 2014, 76% of shoplifting cases at the NEX were solved by using closed circuit surveillance systems.

70% of NEX profits go to supporting Navy quality of life programs.
