Three rescued from sinking boat near Cape Hatteras

Posted

Cape Hatteras, NC – Three people had to be rescued by the Coast Guard on Monday after their boat began taking on water just east of Cape Hatteras.

North Carolina watchstanders were notified at 7 a.m. about the 60-foot boat “Teal” that was taking on water while three people were on board.

The Coast Guard dispatched out a 47-foot lifeboat crew along with the Coast Guard Cutter Nantucket. They arrived on the scene at 7:50 p.m.

They used two dewatering pumps to help get the water out of the Teal, but this was not enough. The pumps were not able to keep up with the rate of flooding on the boat.

The pumps were taken off of the boat and three people were transferred to the Nantucket.

They are now on the way to Morehead City.

No other details have been released.
