Norfolk, Va. – A woman was taken to the hospital after she ran into a backhoe.
Police responded to the scene of the crash in the 1200 block of Maltby Avenue on Thursday.
When police arrived, they saw a woman walking around with blood on her head. They say the woman said she was driving her car on Maltby Avenue and hit the rear bucket of the backhoe.
Police have identified the woman as 24-year-old Charmaine Davenport.
Photos provided by Norfolk Police show that the bucket of the truck completely shattered the Davenport’s windshield.
The backhoe belongs to W.E. Curling, a utility contracting company from Chesapeake.
The backhoe was stationary and speed may have been a factor in the crash, according to police. Davenport was the only person in the car at the time of the crash.
Davenport was taken to Sentara Norfolk General and treated for non-life threatening injuries. The man driving the backhoe was not injured in the crash.
Davenport has been charged with reckless driving.
