Five arrested on narcotics charges in Dare County

Dare County, N.C. – The Dare County Narcotics Task Force has made several more drug arrests.

On December 1, 39-year-old Elke Marie Schwartz was arrested for distributing her prescription medication, Suboxone.  She was charged with one count of sale or delivery of a schedule III controlled substance.  Schwartz was released on a $4,000 secured bond.  Additional charges for her case will be submitted to a grand jury.

The task force arrested two people accused of distributing medication in Manteo, North Carolina. Task force members went to a McDonald’s, where they observed a hand to hand drug transaction. Officials arrested Ashley Mae McCarter and Amanda Jo Wells on December 4th.

McCarter was charged with sell or delivery of a schedule II controlled substance, felony possession with intent to manufacture and sell and/or deliver schedule II controlled substance. McCarter was released on a $16,000 secured bond. Additional charges for her case will be submitted to a grand jury.

Amanda Jo Wells was charged with misdemeanor possession of schedule II controlled substance.  Wells was released on a $8,000 secured bond. Additional charges for her case will be submitted to a grand jury.

Finally on December 8th, task force members conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle as it was returning from Virginia.  Police believe that the occupants were taking drugs from Virginia to Dare County. K9 officers found heroin and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.  Police arrested Shelby Tyler Midgett and Christina Grace Moye.

Midgett was charged with felony possession of heroin and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was held in lieu of a $160,000 bond.

Moye was charged with felony possession of heroin, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and probation violation.  She was held in lieu of a $70,000 bond.
