Chesapeake, Va. – Police arrested 26-year-old Shelvin Alston  after he led police on a pursuit that began in Virginia Beach and ended on I-64 eastbound near Greenbrier Parkway in Chesapeake.

The incident started around 8:40 p.m. after police received a call regarding a larceny in progress at a convenience store in the 600 block of Newtown Road in Virginia Beach.

Police arrived to the scene as Alston drove away in a large rental box truck in an erratic, reckless manner.  He failed to pull over after marked police cars activated their lights and sirens.Alston

The chase entered into Norfolk and Chesapeake.

The truck came to a complete stop on I-64 near Greenbrier Parkway after running over road spikes deployed by police.

After Alston failed to comply with police, officers released a K9 unit.  He was quickly taken into police custody and transported to a hospital for minor injuries from a K9 bite.

Authorities say alcohol is a contributing factor to this incident. It was not considered a high speed pursuit.

This was a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement effort as Virginia State Police and Norfolk Police worked together during this incident.
