Portsmouth, Va. – Police have arrested and charged two men accused of robbing Barber’s Tire & Auto on 5701 Portsmouth Boulevard.
Police received a call about the robbery on December 27 around 10:30 p.m.
Detectives say the two men came into the store, implied they had guns and demanded money from an employee. They ran out of the store after they took the cash.
No one was injured during the robbery.
Shortly after the call about the robbery, the Special Investigations Unit saw a suspicious vehicle on Greenwood Drive and tried to stop the car.
The driver of the car did not stop and tried to drive away from detectives. There was a short police chase through the Cavalier Manor neighborhood before the suspects got out of the car and ran away.
Detectives chased the suspects on foot and apprehended the passenger of the vehicle on Cole Drive.
They continued to search for the driver, who was eventually caught by a police K-9 unit while trying to hide from police in a shed on Welcome Road.
Both suspects were identified as the men who robbed the Barber’s Tire & Auto.
Detectives charged 23-year-old Nathaniel Mitchell and 24-year-old Anthony Foye with robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, abduction, gang participation, and felony eluding.
Police say the suspects are believed to involved in several other crimes currently under investigation.
