Norfolk, Va. – A 48-year-old Chesapeake man was sentenced to 132 months in prison and 20 years of supervised release for receipt of child pornography.

Charles Gibbons pleaded guilty on September 9, 2015.

Court documents say the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation into people using file sharing programs to distribute child porn on the Internet in May 2014.

That investigation lead to law enforcement finding numerous pictures of child pornography downloaded on Gibbons’ computer. They took computer media from Gibbons’ home.

Forensic analysts found over 6,400 images and 1,000 videos of child pornography on Gibbons’ computer media.

Gibbons was also fined $35,000.

This case was brought as part ofProject Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse, launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.
