Hampton Police officer accused of sexually assaulting juvenile

Hampton, Va. – A Hampton Police Officer has resigned after he was arrested on allegations of sexual assault.

Police say on January 7th, they were made aware of allegations of the assault that happened before he was employed the the department.

They say this happened in York county.

Officials say Michael A. Anderson sexually assaulted a victim he knew several times in 1982.

Anderson, 51, has been with the department since 1990.

Hampton Police initiated an internal investigation.

Anderson handed in his resignation after he was arrested.
