43-year-old man shot in the thigh in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Police are investigating a shooting after a 43-year-old man walked into a hospital with a gunshot wound to his thigh.

Newport News Communications received a call reporting that a person had been shot in the 1100 block of 23rd street around 5:16 a.m.

When officers arrived, they could not find a victim but residents said they did hear gunshots.

While on scene, police say communications told officers that a shooting victim walked into an area ER with a gunshot wound to his thigh.

The victim, a 43-year-old man, reported to police that he was near the intersection of 23rd and Roanoke when he was shot.

Police say the man was taken to the hospital by an individual but it is unclear what his relationship to that person was, if any.

There is no known suspect information at this time.
