Accomack County Sheriff’s Office investigating two overnight shootings

Onancock, Va. – The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two overnight shootings.

Both incidents happened on January 8 just before 10 p.m.

Officers were patrolling Pine Street Apartments in Onancock when they saw gunshots being fired between multiple people,  according to Sheriff Todd Godwin.

When police confronted a person involved in the incident, the person pointed a gun in the officer’s direction. The officer fired one shot and the person ran away.

Nadir Amir Toppin was taken into custody by police and charged with reckless handling of a firearm. Toppin was released on a $1,500 secured bond.

Police found a man with multiple gunshot wounds to his body at the scene. He was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

Nearly 10 minutes later, deputies responded to Onancock Square Apartments responded to and found a second gunshot victim. The victim was treated and released from a local hospital.

The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office is working to identify the people involved in the incident, as well as any involvement by the gunshot victims.
