Citizens help police find stabbing suspect

Newport News, Va. – Police are crediting citizens for helping them catch a stabbing suspect.

Police say thanks to citizens who gave an exact description of the suspect and where he was going, Thomas Robinson was arrested by officers.

Police were called to the Julius Conn Gymnasium for a report of an assault around 8 a.m. on January 12.

Officers found a 35-year-old male victim with knife wounds to his arm.

Investigators say the victim and a woman were verbally fighting with each other at the gym.

Robinson, a friend of the woman, walked up and started hitting the victim in the arm. The victim realized he had been stabbed.

Robinson ran away from the scene, but officers found Robinson in the area of 30th Street and Washington Avenue, a short distance from the gym.

Police arrested Robinson. He has been charged with malicious wounding.

The victim was taken to the hospital to treat a non-life threatening wound.
