Police received a call about a small plane crash at the Accomack County Airport just after 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

The pilot and passenger were able to escape the wreckage and were not injured.

They say the pilot was attempting to land a 1979 Piper Lance when a gust of wind caused him to run off of the runway.

The plane traveled across a grassy area and hit a storage shed and a light pole.

The plane then caught fire officials say.
