Portsmouth,Va. – A 72-year-old woman is dead after she was hit, and dragged by her own vehicle in Portsmouth.
The accident happened on Tuesday, January 19th.
Police received a call at 7:30 p.m. requesting medical assistance in the 300 block of Ansell Avenue. They say a woman was hit by a vehicle.
When they arrived, police found 72-year-old Delores Clifton of Portsmouth lying on the ground and her vehicle was still running in the parking lot.
They say she was pronounced dead on the scene.
Police believe Clifton hit the accelerator instead of the brake when she was getting out of the vehicle. She was then hit by the car and dragged under the vehicle.
The vehicle then hit another car nearby.
No other details have been released.
