One dead, another seriously injured in head-on collision in Portsmouth

Portsmouth, Va. – One person is dead and another was seriously injured after a head on collision in Portsmouth over the weekend.

This happened on Sunday, January 17th, 2016 early in the morning.

Officials say Suffolk Police received a call about a vehicle that was going the wrong way on I-164 westbound heading towards Portsmouth.

When Suffolk officers arrived, they found the accident in Portsmouth.

This happened between Towne Point Road and College Drive.

Portsmouth Police arrived on the scene after getting a call at 3:33 p.m.

Investigators say the driver of another vehicle passed a small SUV driving the wrong way in the westbound direction. The SUV then collided with another vehicle.

A 38-year-old woman, identified as Amy Alvarez-Polozzi, was pronounced dead at the scene.

She was driving a black Ford Escape. The other driver, a 25-year-old man, was operating a purple PT Cruiser. His vehicle was heavily damaged.

Both drivers had to be removed from their vehicles.

The driver of the PT Cruiser is expected to survive.
