Virginia Beach, Va. (WTKR)-A portion of Lynnhaven Parkway in Virginia Beach is now closed to traffic as crews continue a reconstruction project.

Virginia Beach Public Works has closed Lynnhaven Parkway between Albright Drive and Dalrymple Street until September 2016.

The road is closed due to crews doing reconstruction on the parkway, including the installation of waterline, sanitary and storm sewers, soundwalls, embankment, curbs, sidewalks and pavement.

Signs for the detour route will be posted which will direct drivers. Detour routing will change as construction progresses.

Anthony Whitehead who lives nearby says construction crews have done a great job keeping neighbors informed as the project progresses.

"We are not backed up because they are out there flagging us letting us know 'okay this is going to be this' and they knock on our doors and say 'look we are going to have you going this way', so they give us advance warning," he told NewsChannel 3's Todd Corillo Tuesday.

The closure is part of the larger Lynnhaven Parkway Widening project, which aims to create a continuous link between Virginia Beach and Chesapeake.
