Tracking dangerously cold temperatures, then snow and rain….We are tracking some of the coldest temperatures we’ve seen this season. Getting started on our Sunday, temperatures will be in the teens, but because of breezy winds from the northwest, wind chill values will be below-zero for several areas. Please bring your pets inside and limit your time outdoors Sunday morning. By the afternoon, highs will only climb into the mid and upper 20s. Most of the day will be dry, but we’ll see an increase in clouds Sunday evening in advance of our next weather maker.
We’re tracking an area of low pressure that will slide toward the area late Sunday night into Monday. Temperatures will be below freezing Monday morning. So, as this system moves in, there will be a chance of snow showers for parts of the area that morning. Some light accumulations are expected as well. As we see it right now, most of Hampton Roads could see anywhere from a dusting to up to 1″ of snow. Some isolated spots in the western and northern reaches of our area could see anywhere from 1″ to 2″ of snow. Areas across the Albemarle of North Carolina could also see a dusting to 1/2″. Then, as our temperatures begin to rise through Monday morning and afternoon, the snow will transition to rain. There will likely be some dangerous conditions on the roads early Monday, so keep that in mind. High temperatures will rise into the mid and upper 40s Monday afternoon. Rain will continue through Tuesday with highs in the mid 50s.
Saturday Night: Mostly Clear. Bitterly Cold & Windy. Low temperatures in the teens. Winds: NW 15-25 mph, with higher gusts.
Sunday: Mostly Sunny to Partly Cloudy. Bitterly Cold. Not as windy be afternoon. High temperatures in the mid and upper 20s. Winds: NW 10-20 mph.
Monday: AM Snow Showers (60%). Then, snow transitions to rain. High temperatures in the mid 40s. Winds: E 5-15 mph.
