Newport News, VA – The Battle of Hampton Roads Weekend in Newport News is going to be an honest good time since Abraham Lincoln will be there!

On Friday March 4, at the Mariner’s Museum and Park local schools will engage in a presidential press conference with “Honest Abe,” played by George Buss.

Buss has played Abraham Lincoln for thousands of audiences across the country for the past 25 years.

His critically acclaimed performance has been shown on C-Span and the Illinois Channel.

Buss was also selected by the Illinois Sesquicentennial Debate Celebration to appear at all seven original debate locations and has been featured in numerous national publications including Smithsonian.

He appears regularly for the Lincoln Forum, the American Queen Steamship Line, The Mariners’ Museum and Park, the Old State Capitol in Springfield, the Abraham Lincoln Association, and the Looking for Lincoln Heritage Coalition.

“The Museum is thrilled to offer this amazing experience for local students. Students can read about history in books, but when you actually ‘meet’ someone from the past, the impact can be enormous,” Mariners’ Museum’s Director of Education Anne Marie Millar said.

On March 5 and 6, the Battle of Hampton Roads Weekend will feature family activities and games, lectures from nationally-recognized historians and authors, cannon firing, iron casting, a yummy History Bites food-tasting event, and a chance to meet good old Abraham Lincoln!
