Two people injured in overnight Newport News shooting

Newport News, Va. – Newport News Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of Thursday, March 3rd that left two people injured.

Police first received a call of a shooting in the 11300 block of Jefferson Avenue at approximately 12:36 a.m.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a 50-year-old man suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the upper left thigh. The victim told police that he was outside when he heard gunshots and was hit in the thigh. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

At 12:41 a.m., dispatch received information that a man had arrived at a local hospital with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and stomach. The 34-year-old’s victim’s injuries are considered life threatening.

Police say both victims are from the same incident. The investigation is ongoing.
