Newport News, Va. (WTKR) - A Newport News business robbery ended very differently than most Saturday afternoon.
Newport News Police responded to Skippers Mart at 13633 Warwick Boulevard around 12:30 p.m.
Detectives spoke with the owner, a 55 year old woman. She told them a man came into the business, implied he had a weapon, and demanded money.
That's when police say the man reached across the counter and removed cash from the register and then started running.
The store owner's husband, Shin Kang, started running after him and was as able to catch up to him and take the money back. The man got away.
Kang told NewsChannel 3's Todd Corillo Monday that the robbery made him angry because the store is his piece of the "American Dream."
"Yea that’s why I’m so angry. He took money, you understand, too much work. I work 15-16 hours. That’s not easy," Kang said.
No one was injured.
