Williamsburg, Va. – Williamsburg Police arrested a man late Wednesday night after he ran from officers following an alleged assault that occurred at a hotel.
Police say they were called to a hotel in the 300 block of 2nd Street around 10 p.m. in reference to several disorderly people.
The arriving officer found a man and woman in the parking lot and attempted to talk to them about the complaint. When a second officer arrived, the man ran towards a wooded area in the back of the property. The second officer followed him, but lost sight of him.
The female remained on scene and told the officers that the man had assaulted her after an argument.
The man, identified as 25-year-old Kevin Wayne Canaday, got locked out of the hotel room and kicked in the door before allegedly assaulting the woman. The woman had minor injuries but did not require medical attention.
Officers continued to look for Canaday and he was eventually spotted leaving the wooded area and approaching the back of the hotel. An officer noticed he was holding an unknown item in his hands as he walked toward the hotel.
When one officer tried to approach him, Canaday threw the object, which turned out to be a shoe, at the officer.
The officer ducked out of the way and Canaday ran back into the wooded area.
Officers finally located Canaday around 11:40 p.m. and he was arrested and taken to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail. He was charged with Domestic Assault, Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Destruction of Private Property and Obstruction of Justice. He was held on a $4,000 secured bond.
