Man stabs himself to death in Target store kitchen aisle

Posted

A man committed suicide Wednesday afternoon at a California Target, apparently with a self-inflicted knife wound to the torso, according to the Fontana Police Department.

The man walked into the Target in the 15200 block of Summit Avenue in Fontana, at the Falcon Ridge Town Center shopping mall, and used a packaged knife that was in the retail store, said police spokeswoman Martha Guzman-Hurtado.

The man died at the scene, the Los Angeles News Group reported, citing police. He was not immediately identified, according to KTLA.

Officers responded to the scene and an investigation was underway, the department announced in a Facebook post at 1:20 p.m. It was unclear what time the apparent stabbing occurred.

The section of the Target where the incident occurred was “secured and covered,” obscuring it from public view, Guzman-Hurtado said, adding that the store remained open for business.

“It’s disgusting that they would let people continue to shop when there’s a dead body inside,” Marlene Rodriguez, 34, told the Los Angeles News Group.

An employee at the Fontana store referred a KTLA reporter’s call to Target’s media relations line. The company did not immediately respond to a voicemail requesting comment.
