Portsmouth, Va. - A teenager is suffering from life threatening injuries after falling through a skylight into the school's gymnasium, according to Portsmouth Detective Misty Holley.

A burglar alarm at William E. Waters Middle School went off just before 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Police say the alarm was triggered by a friend of the injured teen who jumped off the roof and broke into the school through a window in order to help the boy.

Police say the injured boy is  14-years-old. He was taken to the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters.

Police say there were at least two other juveniles on the roof with the victim, but there are no other reported injuries.

Police say they are not sure why they were on the roof.

No charges have been filed against any of the teens involved.
