One adult, one child escape house fire in Norfolk

Norfolk, Va. – Norfolk Fire-Rescue units responded to a house fire in the 4800 block of Elmhurst Avenue on Thursday evening.

Units arrived to the scene just after 9 p.m. The first unit reported smoke and flames from the front of the house.

Crews initially thought people were inside of the home, but they didn’t find anyone during their search. They discovered that the two occupants, one adult and one child, were able to get out of the house on their own and were in a neighbor’s house.

The fire was located in the front bedroom of the home. It was under control just before 9:30 p.m. The home suffered fire and smoke damage.

22 firefighters responded to the fire. No one was hurt.

The displaced will stay with family members.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
