Portsmouth Chanello’s Pizza robbery suspect arrested

Portsmouth, Va. – Detectives have made an arrest in the armed robbery of a Chanello’s Pizza at 3200 High Street.

The restaurant was held up at gunpoint on Saturday night.

Dispatchers received calls about the robbery at 8:23 p.m.

Police said an armed suspect went into the business, demanded money and then ran away. No one was injured.

Shortly after the 911 call, officers arrested 38-year-old Rico D. Nixon in connection with the crime.

Nixon is charged with six felonies, including two counts of abduction, robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm by felon.

Nixon is currently in the custody of the Portsmouth Sheriff’s Office.
