Norfolk, Va. – A gas leak was reported in at 245 East Virginia Beach Boulevard Thursday morning that shut down traffic for over an hour.

Crews were called to the area around 8:00 a.m.

Firefighters were ordered to conduct air quality sampling and soon discovered a pressure relief valve at the Virginia Natural Gas transfer station was venting.

As a precautionary measure, apartment buildings along Virginia Beach Boulevard were evacuated and firefighters deployed hose lines.
