VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Aquarium is hosting a welcome home party for Rudder, their new harbor seal.

The event begins at 10 a.m. on April 16 and will include harbor seal training sessions, educational outreach outside of the seal exhibit and games inside of the Aquarium. Rudder’s party will be part of the ongoing Playdate with the Animals event, held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Rudder was found in Deal, New Jersey on Valentine’s Day with wounds on his back flippers.

A spokesperson for the aquarium says that the injuries could have been from a shark bite or boat strike. It caused partial paralysis in his back flippers.

The seal was rehabilitated at the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in New Jersey, and was transported to the aquarium on September 9.
