Man accused of robbing Wells Fargo on Warwick Boulevard

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – A man is now behind bars after police say he robbed a Wells Fargo bank in Newport News.

This occurred on Saturday, April 16 at 11:54 a.m.

Police say he threatened to hurt bank employees if they did not give him the cash.

The employees followed his directions and put the cash in a bag he gave them.

He was seen getting into a dark blue 2007-2008 Camry.

They say he went northbound on Warwick.

Thanks to help from the community, the suspect was identified as Rodney Evans, 48, of Newport News.

Police say they arrested him at his home in the 500 block of Logan Place on Friday, April 22.

Evans has been charged with one count of robbery and two counts of abduction.

He is now in custody in the Newport News City Jail.
